Sitting council members have taken your votes for granted for too long. I'll push to repeal the benefits packages that come with the seat — public service shouldn't come with a perks package residents never voted on.
Rules and codes that exist to control citizens rather than serve them get repealed under my watch. Local government should make life easier for residents, not harder — every bylaw and code needs to earn its place, not just persist because no one challenged it.
This decision has been left to the next council — and it deserves better than rhetoric, rumour, and reticence. What if we stepped above all of that with a properly sanctioned process: a direct, transparent survey or vote that lets every resident express, without question, how they see and identify with their own city. Not a decision made behind closed doors, on anyone's behalf — a decision Powell River makes for itself, together, with real respect for the history and the people this touches.
I love this city too much to let this get decided by whoever shouts loudest. Let the people speak — directly, clearly, and once.
